What are Rage Broadheads?

ree

Rage Broadheads are

a brand of popular, mechanical (expandable) broadheadsused for bowhunting and crossbow hunting. They are known for their patented SlipCam™ technology and rear-deploying blades, which are designed to fly with the accuracy of a field tip but expand upon impact to create large cutting diameters and significant wound channels for quick, ethical kills.

Key Features and Technology

  • Mechanical (Expandable) Design: The blades of Rage broadheads remain tucked back during flight for a more aerodynamic profile, then deploy upon impact with the target animal.

  • Rear-Deploying Blades: Unlike some designs where blades fold forward, Rage blades slide rearward into their deployed position once the tip meets resistance, ensuring they open reliably inside the animal.

  • SlipCam™ Technology: This patented system is central to the Rage design, controlling the deployment of the blades to ensure they open consistently and efficiently at the moment of impact.

  • Large Cutting Diameter: When deployed, Rage broadheads create wide cutting diameters (often 2 inches or more), resulting in large entry holes and significant blood trails that facilitate easier tracking and recovery of game.

  • Blade Retention Systems: Over the years, Rage has utilized various systems to keep the blades closed during flight and in the quiver:

    • Shock Collars: The original design used small O-rings or plastic collars which break away on impact.

    • No Collar (NC) System: Newer models, like the Hypodermic NC, use a friction or cam-lock system with finger-like tabs that anchor the blades in place, eliminating the need for a separate collar or O-ring.

  • Durability and Penetration: They often feature sharp, robust stainless steel blades and a narrow, hybrid tip (like the "Hypodermic" tip) designed for superior penetration through hide and bone.

Rage offers a variety of models for both compound bows and crossbows, with different blade counts and tip designs (e.g., chisel tips, cut-on-contact tips) to suit various hunting preferences and conditions. They are a widely recognized and top-selling brand in the bowhunting community.
